Krakatoa (Krakatau) volcano news & eruption updates:
Thu, 21 Aug 2008, 17:25
According to a news article, explosions and earthquakes from Anak Krakatau averaged 120 per day approximately during 11-17 August. Monitoring personnel observed active lava flows, ejecting rocks, and emissions of "smoke."
Sat, 21 Jun 2008, 11:56
Strombolian activity with frequent ash explosions creating plumes of up to about 1 km height continue at Anak Krakatau.
Tue, 3 Jun 2008, 10:51
Strombolian activity with frequent ash explosions are continuing at Anak Krakatau. Ash plumes reach approximately 1 km height.
Mon, 19 May 2008, 10:58
Anak Krakatau continues to produce small ash-rich strombolian explosions. An indirect report from about one week ago about "lava reaching the sea", i.e. lava flows, need to be verified as it cannot be confirmed from other sources so far. More likely, ejected incandescent blocks are occasionally reaching the sea.
Thu, 24 Apr 2008, 09:46
Anak Krakatau is getting active again. CVGHM reported increased seismicity during 14-21 April as well as ash plumes accompanied by ejections of incandescent rocks observed during field observations on 16, 17, and 18 April. The renewed eruption affected the summit and the E and S flanks. Booming noises were reported and occasionally heard at an observation post 42 km away. The Alert Level was raised to 3 (on a scale of 1-4) on 21 April.
