Krakatoa volcano (Sunda Strait, Indonesia): strong explosive activity continues, ash up to 45,000 ft altitude

The volcano continues to erupt and generate large ash and steam plumes that rise to up to 45,000 ft (15 km) altitude. This indicates that the very explosive water-magma interaction continues, although recent satellite images show that the crater bay has almost filled with new deposits.

If activity continues, it can be expected that soon the sea water will be cut off from the vent. At that point, activity can be expected to change towards purely magma-driven (with no or less water involved), in the form of lava fountains, strombolian explosions and possibly lava flows.
