Mayon volcano: eruption news and updates
Mayon volcano (Philippines) activity update: continued inflation
Wednesday Feb 26, 2020 17:54 PM | POR: T
The volcano is restless, emitting moderate amounts of steam and gas. Monitoring data shows that inflation of volcano continues.
It started in late 2019 and affects the middle to upper portions of the volcanic edifice, suggesting that magma is accumulating inside its conduits and might lead to a new eruption in a not-too-distant future.
The volcano's seismic monitoring network recorded three (3) volcanic earthquakes during the most recent 24-hour observation period. Sulfur dioxide (SO2) emission was measured at an average of 478 tonnes/day on 23 February 2020. (PHIVOLCS)

PHIVOLCS reported that the seismic station records 3 volcano-tectonic earthquakes during the last 24 hours. ...

DOST-PHIVOLCS recorded two volcanic earthquakes from Mayon Volcano over the past 24 hours. Moderate emissions of steam-laden plumes that crept downslope before drifting to the general west was observed. Inflation of the northern sector of the volcanic edifice that began in the last quarter of 2019 continues. This follows an inflationary trend that began in February 2019. The alert level remains at ALERT LEVEL 2. ...

Mayon Volcano’s seismic monitoring network recorded one volcanic earthquake over the last 24 hours. DOST-PHIVOLCS observed weak steam emissions with plumes drifting east-northeast. Sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions was measured at 115 tonnes/day on 10 January 2020. Ground deformation data from Precise Levelling surveys obtained on 23 – 30 October 2019 indicate a slight deflation of the edifice relative to 16 – 25 July 2019. However, the volcano generally remains inflated relative to the early 2019 baseline level. This is consistent with recent electronic tilt data. Continuous GPS data also showed inflation of the edifice since February 2019. ...

The volcano has been showing signs of unrest and it is likely preparing for its next eruption although it is left to speculation when it will start. ...

Volcanoes in the Solar System
: The Earth is not the only place with volcanic activity. Active volcanism also occurs at at least 3 other bodies in our Solar System.
Ethiopia and the Danakil
: Ethiopia is a very diverse and beautiful country. Thanks to our numerous expeditions to Erta Ale and Dallol
and beyond, we have an extensive collection of images showing the volcano's lava lake, the desert, the colorful hot springs of Dallol, the vast salt lakes, camel caravans and more.
