Methana volcano, Greece: aerial photos of the lava domes

Methana opposite Athens in the Saronic Gulf of Greece is one of Europe's least known active volcanic areas. The peninsula consists of a group of overlapping prehistoric and one historic (around 238 BC) lava domes that overlie limestone basement.
An underwater eruption occurred off the northern coast in around 1700 AD.
Methana is known for its hot springs and uncrowded, beautiful green rural landscape.
