Significant earthquake of magnitude 5.8 just reported 55 km west of Linqiong, China

A shallow magnitude 5.8 earthquake was reported in the afternoon near Linqiong, Sichuan, China.
According to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), the quake hit on Wednesday, June 1st, 2022, at 5:00 pm local time at a shallow depth of 10 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 5.8 earthquake as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 5.8.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Linqiong (pop. 55,600) located 55 km from the epicenter, and Kandin (pop. 100,000) 99 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Chengdu (pop. 7,415,600) located 117 km from the epicenter, Tianpeng (pop. 60,800) 121 km away, and Leshan (pop. 154,500) 124 km away.
