4.3 quake 2.6 Km S of Hella, Iceland, 24 Feb 2021 10:05 am (GMT +0)
An earthquake of magnitude 4.3 occurred in the morning on Wednesday 24 February 2021 at 10:05 am local time near Reykjavik, Reykjavíkurborg, Capital Region, Iceland, as reported by the Icelandic Met Office (IMO).
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a very shallow depth of 7.2 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Vogar (pop. 1000) located 11 km from the epicenter, and Grindavik (pop. 2,900) 13 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Hafnarfjordur (pop. 26,800) located 22 km from the epicenter, Hafnarfjörður (pop. 26,800) 22 km away, Garðabaer (pop. 11,400) 25 km away, Garðabær (pop. 11,400) 25 km away, Kopavogur (pop. 31,700) 27 km away, Reykjavik (pop. 118,900) 30 km away, Mosfellsbaer (pop. 8,700) 38 km away, and Mosfellsbær (pop. 8,700) 38 km away.

28.2 km NNE of epicenter [Map] / Moderate shaking (MMI V) / horizontal (sideways) swinging / 1-2 s : Felt like a fore-shock and definitely felt stronger than 4.3. I’ve been in 4.4-4.5 quakes before and this was a lot stronger than that. Maybe due to proximity?
