An earthquake of magnitude 4.6 occurred only 23 minutes ago 17 km northeast of Jutiapa, Guatemala, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake hit at an intermediate to considerable depth of 225.4 km beneath the epicenter near Jutiapa, Municipio de Jutiapa, Departamento de Jutiapa, Guatemala, early evening on Sunday 28 March 2021 at 7:49 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.6 as well.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage.
