Just 15 minutes ago, a 4.3-magnitude earthquake struck near Linxi, Hebei, China. The tremor was recorded in the afternoon on Friday 16 April 2021 at 4:06 pm local time, at a very shallow depth of 9 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the China Earthquake Networks Center (CEIC), the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Linxi (pop. 100,300) located 23 km from the epicenter, Guye (pop. 41,500) 23 km away, Zhaogezhuang (pop. 86,600) 26 km away, Changli (pop. 64,500) 38 km away, and Tangshan (pop. 3,372,100) 47 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Fengrun (pop. 65,200) located 52 km from the epicenter, and Beidaihehaibin (pop. 66,000) 70 km away.
