3.3 quake 25 Apr 9:05 pm (GMT -7)
A very shallow magnitude 3.3 earthquake was reported in the evening near Santa Rosa, Sonoma County, California, USA.
According to the United States Geological Survey, the quake hit on Sunday 25 April 2021 at 9:05 pm local time at a very shallow depth of 0.2 miles. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.3 as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Middletown (pop. 1,300) located 5 miles from the epicenter.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Hidden Valley Lake (pop. 5,600) located 8 miles from the epicenter, Healdsburg (pop. 11,700) 13 miles away, Russian River (pop. 11,700) 13 miles away, Clearlake (pop. 15,200) 15 miles away, Windsor (pop. 27,500) 16 miles away, and Santa Rosa (pop. 175,000) 22 miles away. In Rohnert Park (pop. 42,400, 29 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
