Just 7 minutes ago, a 3.0-magnitude earthquake struck near Eureka, Humboldt County, California, USA. The tremor was recorded after midnight on Tuesday 4 May 2021 at 12:37 am local time, at a shallow depth of 15 miles below the surface.
The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey, the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.0 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Samoa (pop. 260) located 3 miles from the epicenter, Eureka (pop. 27,000) 5 miles away, Humboldt Hill (pop. 3,400) 8 miles away, Pine Hills (pop. 3,100) 9 miles away, and Arcata (pop. 17,800) 9 miles away. In Bayside (pop. 17,100, 10 miles away), McKinleyville (pop. 15,200, 11 miles away), and Fortuna (pop. 12,000, 17 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
