Just 16 minutes ago, a 4.9-magnitude earthquake struck near Ebetsu, Ebetsu-shi, Hokkaido, Japan. The tremor was recorded early morning on Sunday 13 June 2021 at 5:32 am local time, at an intermediate to considerable depth of 168.5 km below the surface.
The event was filed by Japan's National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED), the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the United States Geological Survey, which listed it as a magnitude 4.2 earthquake.
