An earthquake of magnitude 4.2 occurred only 13 minutes ago 12 km east of Ebetsu, Japan, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake hit at an intermediate to considerable depth of 170 km beneath the epicenter near Ebetsu, Ebetsu-shi, Hokkaido, Japan, early morning on Sunday 13 June 2021 at 5:32 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Iwamizawa (pop. 85,100, 12 km away), Ebetsu (pop. 134,000, 12 km away), Kitahiroshima (pop. 62,400, 18 km away), Tōbetsu (pop. 21,800, 20 km away), Bibai (pop. 29,000, 28 km away), Sapporo (pop. 1,883,000, 29 km away), Chitose (pop. 92,900, 31 km away), Ishikari (pop. 57,300, 32 km away), and Tomakomai (pop. 174,800, 52 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
