The United States Geological Survey reported a magnitude 3.0 quake in the United States near Saint Paul, Kodiak Island, Alaska, only 9 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early morning on Wednesday 16 June 2021 at 4:00 am local time at a moderately shallow depth of 28 miles. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.0 earthquake as well.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Saint Paul (pop. 6,300, 32 miles away), Kodiak Station (pop. 1,300, 39 miles away), Womens Bay (pop. 720, 45 miles away), and Port Lions (pop. 200, 46 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
