Just 17 minutes ago, a 4.7-magnitude earthquake struck near Espinar, Provincia de Espinar, Cusco, Peru. The tremor was recorded late at night on Saturday 17 July 2021 at 10:33 pm local time, at an intermediate depth of 132 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.7 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Totora (pop. 86) located 13 km from the epicenter, Espinar (pop. 23,900) 37 km away, Ccolo (pop. 3,900) 54 km away, Chivay (pop. 4,500) 67 km away, Yanaoca (pop. 3,900) 94 km away, and Sicuani (pop. 33,600) 97 km away.
