4.3 quake 15 Sep 6:59 pm (GMT +5:30)
Just 18 minutes ago, a 4.3-magnitude earthquake struck near Aizawl, Aizawl district, Mizoram, India. The tremor was recorded early evening on Wednesday, September 15th, 2021, at 6:29 pm local time, at a shallow depth of 10 km below the surface.
The event was filed by India's National Center for Seismology (NCS), the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from Thailand's Earthquake Observation Division (TMD) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.3 as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 4.3.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Khawhai (pop. 2,500) located 25 km from the epicenter.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include North Vanlaiphai (pop. 3,500) located 51 km from the epicenter, Serchhip (pop. 20,200) 54 km away, Thenzawl (pop. 6,000) 62 km away, Aizawl (pop. 265,300) 64 km away, Sāitlaw (pop. 11,000) 90 km away, Lunglei (pop. 52,700) 92 km away, and Churāchāndpur (pop. 47,800) 97 km away.
