4.4 quake 52 km south of Oruro, Bolivia, Oct 4, 2021 9:19 pm (GMT -4)
Just 16 minutes ago, a 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck near Oruro, Bolivia. The tremor was recorded in the evening on Monday, October 4th, 2021, at 9:19 pm local time, at an intermediate to considerable depth of 263.4 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey, the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.4 as well.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Huanuni (pop. 15,500, 33 km away), Oruro (pop. 208,700, 52 km away), Llallagua (pop. 28,100, 54 km away), and Challapata (pop. 8,000, 61 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake become available. If you're in the area, please send us your experience through our reporting mechanism, either online or via our mobile app. This will help us provide more first-hand updates to anyone around the globe who wants to know more about this quake.

Info: The more agencies report about the same quake and post similar data, the more confidence you can have in the data. It takes normally up to a few hours until earthquake parameters are calculated with near-optimum precision.

Bryant AR / Light shaking (MMI IV) / complex motion difficult to describe : There was an incredibly odd feeling under my feet when I was standing on the patio, in the garage doorway - it felt like the ground below the concrete was lifting up, but not rolling, like usual. There is a deep sound of explosions and heavy thump deep in
La Paz (241.2 km NNW of epicenter) [Map] / not felt : Un leve parpadeo de luces y leve movimiento casi imperceptibles (reported through our app)
