Newark, DE / Very weak shaking (MMI II) / single lateral shake / very short : It did not feel like a quake. It was a single boom that shook the house, not so much of the rumble of an earthquake. I've been in a couple of earthquakes and it was a different sensation. | 18 users found this interesting.  
  • I work from 7pm to 6am and I was in bed when my entire house shook from the ground up… I got up to check if a car struck my front porch or house and Thank God that was not the case. Along with the shaking was a weird noise that I can’t really explain.

  • It was a car explosion on summit Bridge rd in middletown, Delaware
  • Didn't seem like a quake either explosion,sonic boom,or meteor strike
  • I don't believe it was an eartquake. It was more like a boom from either an explosion or maybe even a sonic boom.
  • I only heard a loud boom around the Newark/Bear Route 40 corridor area. No movement though.

Saint Georges DE (40.5 km NW of epicenter) [Map] / Weak shaking (MMI III) : The timing of the earthquake was almost exactly when an explosive detonation occurred by Summit Bridge road in Middletown DE. I would venture to say that all reports of a single boom follow by a shake was from the explosion rather than the earthquake, but | One user found this interesting.

It caused my house to rattle for 2 or 3 seconds. I thought maybe a train on the nearby tracks had crashed or overturned, however there was no train on the tracks at that time. | One user found this interesting.

Bear De (44.1 km NW of epicenter) [Map] / Weak shaking (MMI III) : Sounded like an explosion. Or something hit the house. Neighbors came outside also to see what hit their house.  
Fairton NJ (7.3 km ENE of epicenter) [Map] / Weak shaking (MMI III) / both vertical and horizontal swinging / very short : I honestly thought it was me getting out of my car too fast. I kinda lost my balance and I even said to my kid “I don’t know what’s wrong with me I lost my balance” I’m assuming maybe it was this now. How strange.  
Millville (2.9 km WSW of epicenter) [Map] / not felt : Didn't feel it but our dog was showing signs of extreme anxiety. She does this with any impending weather.

Carneys Point NJ (44.3 km NNW of epicenter) [Map] / Moderate shaking (MMI V) / both vertical and horizontal swinging / very short : Thought maybe my wife knocked over the furniture. Heard a very loud boom and the house shook like something ran into it. Then I thought either Dupont or jet explosion.  
Newark De 19702 (6.9 km WSW of epicenter) [Map] / Light shaking (MMI IV) / single lateral shake / 1-2 s : Felt like something heavy hit the house (single family home) from the south. Went out to investigate and found neighbors from 5 houses on the block outside describing the same thing— all thought something had hit their house  
Milford, Sussex, Delaware (50 km SSW of epicenter) [Map] / Moderate shaking (MMI V) / complex motion difficult to describe / 1-2 s : Sounded like an explosion or train derailment but only lasted a second or 2. I live off limestone road.  
New castle, delaware (43.9 km NW of epicenter) [Map] / Very weak shaking (MMI II) / rattling, vibrating / 2-5 s : Felt and heard slight rumbling of the house, like a truck driving by, but there was no truck nearby (I was looking directly at the street at the time).  
Delcastle Park, Wilmington, DE (55.6 km NW of epicenter) [Map] / Very weak shaking (MMI II) / 5-10 s : We thought it was a sonic boom. We did not feel the shaking but we did hear what sounded like a sonic boom / traffic roar that seemed a distance away.  
Fair Hill, MD (63.7 km NW of epicenter) [Map] / Light shaking (MMI IV) / single lateral shake / 1-2 s : Sounded like a boom and then window rattled. We thought it was Aberdeen Proving Ground testing things.
