Magnitude 4.0 earthquake strikes near Bajaset, Ağrı, Turkey4.0 quake 20 May 11:41 pm (GMT +3)
The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported a magnitude 4.0 quake in Iran near Bajaset, Ağrı, 40 minutes ago. The earthquake hit late at night on Friday, May 20th, 2022, at 11:41 pm local time at a very shallow depth of 0 km. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the Kandilli Oservatory and Earthquake Research Institute in Istanbul (KOERI-RETMC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.0 as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Bajaset (pop. 70,200) located 52 km from the epicenter, Diyadin (pop. 18,200) 68 km away, Erciş (pop. 91,900) 74 km away, Qarah Ẕīā'od Dīn (pop. 31,900) 74 km away, Khowy (pop. 175,400) 88 km away, Iğdır (pop. 75,700) 94 km away, Van (pop. 371,700) 98 km away, and Van (pop. 371,700) 98 km away.
