Significant magnitude 5.0 quake hits 78 km southeast of Mati, Philippines early morning
5.0 quake 8 Jun 4:37 am (GMT +8)
5.0 quake 8 Jun 4:37 am (GMT +8)
An earthquake of magnitude 5.0 occurred only 17 minutes ago 78 km southeast of Mati, Philippines, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter near Mati, Davao Oriental, Davao, Philippines, early morning on Wednesday, June 8th, 2022, at 4:37 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from France's Réseau National de Surveillance Sismique (RéNaSS) which listed the quake at magnitude 5.4. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 5.0, and the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) at magnitude 5.1.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Tarragona (pop. 3,800) located 58 km from the epicenter, San Ignacio (pop. 6,300) 59 km away, Manay (pop. 20,300) 63 km away, Bobon (pop. 4,500) 64 km away, Mati (pop. 105,900) 78 km away, San Isidro (pop. 9,700) 90 km away, Central (pop. 10,100) 96 km away, and Lupon (pop. 27,200) 99 km away.
VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake become available. If you're in the area, please send us your experience through our reporting mechanism, either online or via our mobile app. This will help us provide more first-hand updates to anyone around the globe who wants to know more about this quake.
