4.5 quake 11 Jun 7:50 pm (GMT -5)
The citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake reported a magnitude 4.5 quake in Colombia near Frontino, Antioquia, only 28 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early evening on Saturday, June 11th, 2022, at 7:50 pm local time at a shallow depth of 10 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.5 earthquake as well. A third agency, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), reported the same quake at magnitude 4.5.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Uramita (pop. 2,300) located 9 km from the epicenter, and Frontino (pop. 8,600) 11 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Dabeiba (pop. 11,500) located 20 km from the epicenter, Cañasgordas (pop. 6,000) 22 km away, and Urrao (pop. 18,800) 58 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Bello (pop. 392,900) located 91 km from the epicenter, Medellin (pop. 2,000,000) 96 km away, Itagui (pop. 281,900) 99 km away, and Envigado (pop. 163,000) 100 km away.
VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake become available. If you're in the area, please send us your experience through our reporting mechanism, either online or via our mobile app. This will help us provide more first-hand updates to anyone around the globe who wants to know more about this quake.
