Moderate magnitude 4.4 quake hits 62 km northwest of Cintalapa de Figueroa, Mexico early morning 4.4 quake 22 Jun 5:51 am (GMT -5)
A magnitude 4.4 earthquake near Cintalapa de Figueroa, Cintalapa, Chiapas, Mexico, was reported only 21 minutes ago by Mexico's National Seismological Service (SSN), considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in Mexico. The earthquake occurred at an intermediate to considerable depth of 167 km beneath the epicenter early morning on Wednesday, June 22nd, 2022, at 5:51 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.4 as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include San Francisco la Paz (pop. 630) located 3 km from the epicenter, La Horqueta (Poblado Doce) (pop. 1,500) 16 km away, Helio Garcia Alfaro (pop. 1,600) 27 km away, and Poblado 10 (pop. 3,300) 42 km away. In Raudales Malpaso (pop. 6,800, 53 km away), Cintalapa de Figueroa (pop. 42,500, 62 km away), Santa Maria Chimalapa (pop. 2,500, 66 km away), and Jiquipilas (pop. 9,900, 68 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
