Moderate 4.9 quake hits near Tateyama, Tateyama-shi, Chiba, Japan

An earthquake of magnitude 4.9 occurred only 12 minutes ago 79 km south of Tateyama, Japan, Japan's National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED) reported.
The quake hit at an intermediate depth of 91.1 km beneath the epicenter near Tateyama, Tateyama-shi, Chiba, Japan, in the morning on Tuesday, July 5th, 2022, at 9:51 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.6 earthquake.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Tateyama (pop. 50,100) located 79 km from the epicenter, Kamogawa (pop. 29,100) 93 km away, Shimoda (pop. 26,700) 98 km away, Miura (pop. 51,500) 100 km away, Yokosuka (pop. 429,000) 114 km away, and Kamakura (pop. 166,000) 119 km away.
