Moderate 4.2 quake hits near Abra Pampa, Departamento de Cochinoca, Jujuy, Argentina

4.2 quake 8 Jul 9:32 pm (GMT -3)
4.2 quake 8 Jul 9:32 pm (GMT -3)
An intermediate to deep magnitude 4.2 earthquake was reported in the evening near Abra Pampa, Departamento de Cochinoca, Jujuy, Argentina.
According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the quake hit on Friday, July 8th, 2022, at 9:32 pm local time at an intermediate to considerable depth of 275 km. The strength of the earthquake may have been tempered by its relative great depth below the surface, which makes it feel weaker in absolute terms. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 4.2 as well.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Abra Pampa (pop. 9,400, 55 km away), La Quiaca (pop. 14,800, 73 km away), Villazon (pop. 30,300, 74 km away), and Aguilar (pop. 3,700, 96 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
