Small 3.1 quake hits near Hillsboro, Washington County, Oregon, USA

A magnitude 3.1 earthquake near Hillsboro, Washington County, Oregon, USA, was reported only 14 minutes ago by the United States Geological Survey, considered the key international and national agency that monitors seismic activity in the US. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 13 miles beneath the epicenter early morning on Sunday, July 24th, 2022, at 1:43 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 3.1 as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.1.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Aloha (pop. 49,400) located 4 miles from the epicenter, Hillsboro (pop. 102,300) 5 miles away, Beaverton (pop. 96,600) 6 miles away, Bethany (pop. 20,600) 7 miles away, Tigard (pop. 51,300) 8 miles away, Tualatin (pop. 27,200) 10 miles away, Lake Oswego (pop. 38,500) 13 miles away, and Portland (pop. 632,300) 13 miles away. In Vancouver (pop. 172,900, 18 miles away), and Salem (Oregon) (pop. 164,500, 36 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.

Heard more so than felt a significant jolt or thud, window rattling on first floor. Husband was sleeping and did not awaken.  
SW 45th Ave (16.5 km E of epicenter) [Map] / Weak shaking (MMI III) : Weak shaking. My bed creaked weirdly and I could feel shifting around, not for very long. Max 15 seconds? But probably much less, I'm not great at estimating time.  
West Slope, Portland, OR (13.6 km ENE of epicenter) [Map] / Light shaking (MMI IV) / horizontal (sideways) swinging / very short : I was awakened and remember looking at the room which seemed to be shaking horizontally. It only lasted a few seconds. Nothing fell off the walls and no furniture was moved at all.  
1424 SW 209th Ave, Beaverton Or 97003 (6.1 km NNE of epicenter) [Map] / Very weak shaking (MMI II) / rattling, vibrating / 15-20 s : The entire house shook. It felt and sounded similar to testing done in Camp Pendleton in Orange County, CA.  
Hillsboro, Oregon (6.2 km N of epicenter) [Map] / not felt : Dad heard a loud thud and that was about it, he described it as "feeling like he jolted awake." I was the only other family member awake and I didn't feel it or heard the thud.  
Hillsboro (4.7 km N of epicenter) [Map] / Weak shaking (MMI III) / rattling, vibrating / very short : It was very brief, but we felt the house shake and heard things rattle. I wasn't sure it was an earthquake, but thought it could have been.

Bearton (11.4 km NNE of epicenter) [Map] / Weak shaking (MMI III) / 2-5 s : It was startling because I was half a sleep and awake but it scared me even more that I was alone and I had no one to calm me down.but it was a shake I was lucky nothing fell of my walls or broke

HILLSBORO, oregon (6.8 km N of epicenter) [Map] / Very weak shaking (MMI II) / single vertical bump / very short : I live on the 3rd floor, it felt like a bump and shake. It shook the whole appartment building. It woke me and my son up.

Like distant thunder or someone falling off the bed in the other room and hitting their elbows and feet before and/or after their body hit the ground.

Elmonica Court Apartments, Beaverton OR 97006 (8.6 km NE of epicenter) [Map] / Light shaking (MMI IV) / rattling, vibrating / 10-15 s : Felt like a very large truck idling just outside, but I could feel it "in my chest" and could tell the whole building was vibrating. I live third floor of a wood construction apartment building. Duration was short, 10-15 seconds.
