An earthquake of magnitude 4.2 occurred only 19 minutes ago 93 km northwest of San Antonio de los Cobres, Argentina, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake hit at an intermediate to considerable depth of 255 km beneath the epicenter near San Antonio de los Cobres, Departamento de Los Andes, Salta, Argentina, early morning on Wednesday, August 10th, 2022, at 5:13 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 4.2 as well.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In San Antonio de los Cobres (pop. 4,000, 93 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
