Magnitude 4.2 earthquake strikes near Marawi City, Lanao del Sur, Mindanao Musulman, Philippines

An earthquake of magnitude 4.2 occurred only 19 minutes ago 24 km west of Marawi City, Philippines, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 19 km beneath the epicenter near Marawi City, Lanao del Sur, Mindanao Musulman, Philippines, after midnight on Thursday, August 11th, 2022, at 12:17 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.2 earthquake as well. A third agency, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, reported the same quake at magnitude 4.2.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Manay (pop. 2,100) located 2 km from the epicenter, Marawi City (pop. 143,600) 24 km away, Boroon (pop. 15,500) 24 km away, Mantampay (pop. 265,000) 25 km away, Ozamiz City (pop. 93,100) 31 km away, Iligan City (pop. 342,600) 33 km away, and Tangub (pop. 29,700) 36 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Iligan City (pop. 312,300) located 46 km from the epicenter, and Cagayan de Oro (pop. 445,100) 84 km away.
