Moderate magnitude 4.0 quake hits 15 miles northeast of Soledad, California, United States early morning

An earthquake of magnitude 4.0 occurred only 9 minutes ago 15 miles northeast of Soledad, California, United States, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 3.4 miles beneath the epicenter near Soledad, Monterey County, California, USA, early morning on Thursday, September 1st, 2022, at 6:36 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 4.0 earthquake as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 4.0.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Soledad (pop. 25,000) located 15 miles from the epicenter, and Greenfield (pop. 17,200) 17 miles away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Hollister (pop. 37,500) located 27 miles from the epicenter, Salinas (pop. 157,400) 32 miles away, Los Banos (pop. 37,500) 38 miles away, Gilroy (pop. 53,200) 41 miles away, and Seaside (pop. 33,000) 41 miles away.
