3.8 quake 6 Nov 4:39 am (GMT -7)
A magnitude 3.8 earthquake near Hurricane, Washington County, Utah, USA, was reported only 23 minutes ago by the United States Geological Survey, considered the key international and national agency that monitors seismic activity in the US. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 9.6 miles beneath the epicenter early morning on Sunday, November 6th, 2022, at 4:39 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 3.8 as well. Other agencies reporting the same quake include The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) at magnitude 3.8, and the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) at magnitude 3.6.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Colorado City (pop. 4,800) located 1 miles from the epicenter, Hildale (pop. 2,900) 1 mile away, and Centennial Park (pop. 1,300) 3 miles away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Hurricane (pop. 15,500) located 23 miles from the epicenter, La Verkin (pop. 4,100) 23 miles away, Kanab (pop. 4,400) 24 miles away, Washington (pop. 24,300) 32 miles away, St. George (pop. 72,900) 36 miles away, and Cedar City (pop. 30,200) 48 miles away.
