Significant 5.2 quake hits near Villavicencio, Departamento del Meta, Colombia

Colombia was shaken near Villavicencio, Departamento del Meta, by an earthquake of magnitude 5.2 only 10 minutes ago, the Institute of Geophysics of the National Polytechnic School in Quito (IGEPN) reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 5 km beneath the epicenter near Villavicencio, Departamento del Meta, Colombia, early morning on Tuesday, November 8th, 2022, at 5:11 am local time. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In San Martin (pop. 16,300) located 25 km from the epicenter, Guamal (pop. 5,000) 29 km away, Acacias (pop. 40,600) 34 km away, Granada (pop. 32,400) 37 km away, Villavicencio (pop. 321,700) 39 km away, San Antonio (pop. 3,600) 41 km away, and Cumaral (pop. 11,300) 51 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Puerto Lopez (pop. 16,700) located 69 km from the epicenter, and Bogota (pop. 7,674,400) 109 km away.
