An earthquake of magnitude 2.5 occurred only 15 minutes ago 7 km northeast of Sierre, Switzerland, the Swiss Seismological Service (SED) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10.1 km beneath the epicenter near Sierre, Sierre District, Valais, Switzerland, after midnight on Monday, November 28th, 2022, at 12:12 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 2.5 earthquake as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 2.5.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Inden (pop. 100) located 4 km from the epicenter, Leuk (pop. 3,400) 6 km away, Randogne (pop. 3,200) 7 km away, Sierre (pop. 15,800) 7 km away, Montana (pop. 2,300) 7 km away, and Chermignon-d'en Haut (pop. 2,800) 10 km away. In Chalais (pop. 2,700, 10 km away), Lens (pop. 3,500, 12 km away), and Sion (pop. 28,000, 21 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
