Significant earthquake of magnitude 5.0 just reported 44 km southwest of Labuan, Indonesia

A magnitude 5.0 earthquake near Labuan, Kabupaten Pandeglang, Banten, Indonesia, was reported only 12 minutes ago by Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency, considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in Indonesia. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter in the morning on Sunday 23 May 2021 at 10:48 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Labuan (pop. 33,600) located 44 km from the epicenter, Pandeglang (pop. 92,300) 75 km away, Rangkasbitung (pop. 126,900) 88 km away, Serang (pop. 164,800) 89 km away, Kresek (pop. 110,200) 110 km away, and Cikupa (pop. 174,000) 120 km away.

Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Curug (pop. 191,400) located 124 km from the epicenter.
