Magnitude 4.2 earthquake strikes near Kos Town, Dodecanese, South Aegean, Greece

An earthquake of magnitude 4.2 occurred early evening on Monday 7 June 2021 at 7:00 pm local time near Kos Town, Dodecanese, South Aegean, Greece, as reported by the National Observatory of Athens (NOA).
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a shallow depth of 10 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the Kandilli Oservatory and Earthquake Research Institute in Istanbul (KOERI-RETMC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.1 earthquake. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) at magnitude 4.2, and the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) at magnitude 4.2.

Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Nikia (pop. 48) located 24 km from the epicenter.
