Magnitude 4.7 earthquake strikes near Mati, Davao Oriental, Davao, Philippines

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported a magnitude 4.7 quake in the Philippines near Mati, Davao Oriental, Davao, only 15 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the morning on Sunday 18 July 2021 at 8:09 am local time at a moderately shallow depth of 42 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Pondaguitan (pop. 2,100) located 10 km from the epicenter, Nangan (pop. 3,400) 22 km away, Tibanbang (pop. 7,800) 37 km away, Sigaboy (pop. 8,000) 41 km away, Lupon (pop. 27,200) 68 km away, and Mati (pop. 105,900) 69 km away.

Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Malita (pop. 41,100) located 73 km from the epicenter, Santa Maria (pop. 16,800) 91 km away, and Davao City (pop. 1,212,500) 109 km away.
