Moderate magnitude 4.9 quake hits 34 miles northeast of Valdez, Alaska, United States in the morning

Just 8 minutes ago, a 4.9-magnitude earthquake struck near Valdez, Valdez-Cordova, Alaska, USA. The tremor was recorded in the morning on Saturday, September 24th, 2022, at 7:18 am local time, at a moderately shallow depth of 25 miles below the surface.

The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey, the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 4.9 as well. Other agencies reporting the same quake include The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) at magnitude 4.9, and the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) at magnitude 4.9.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Tonsina (pop. 78) located 20 miles from the epicenter, Willow Creek (pop. 190) 28 miles away, Kenny Lake (pop. 360) 28 miles away, and Valdez (pop. 3,900) 34 miles away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Cordova (pop. 2,200) located 65 miles from the epicenter.
