A very shallow magnitude 3.0 earthquake was reported late at night near Leinster, Leonora, Western Australia, Australia.
3.0 quake 24 Sep 11:13 pm (GMT +8)
According to Geoscience Australia (GeoAu), the quake hit on Saturday, September 24th, 2022, at 11:13 pm local time at a very shallow depth of 3.9 miles. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.0 as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Leinster (pop. 1,300) located 4 miles from the epicenter.
