An earthquake of magnitude 3.0 occurred 32 minutes ago 32 km northeast of Sparta, Greece, the National Observatory of Athens (NOA) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 14.5 km beneath the epicenter near Sparta, Laconia, Peloponnese, Greece, late at night on Monday, September 26th, 2022, at 10:52 pm local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
A second report was later issued by the Kandilli Oservatory and Earthquake Research Institute in Istanbul (KOERI-RETMC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.1 earthquake. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) at magnitude 3.0, and the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 3.0.

Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Leonidio (pop. 3,000) located 7 km from the epicenter, and Geraki (pop. 1,300) 17 km away. In Astros (pop. 2,200, 30 km away), Vlachiotis (pop. 2,400, 31 km away), Sparta (pop. 16,200, 32 km away), Skala (pop. 2,800, 33 km away), Tripoli (pop. 26,600, 55 km away), Argos (pop. 22,200, 55 km away), and Kalamata (pop. 54,100, 61 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
