La Soufrière de Guadeloupe volcano (Guadeloupe, France): seismic unrest continues

Seismic activity under Soufrière volcano (OVSG-IPGP)
The volcano has been showing weak signs of unrest since the beginning of 2018, in the form of increasing numbers of tiny earthquakes under the volcano. In the first half of the year, seismicity progressively began to increase, culminating in an energetic earthquake swarm in April. During the second half of 2018, at least 6 additional swarms of earthquakes have occurred, dominated by small earthquakes related to rock fracturing at depth, likely caused by increased pressure and intrusion of fluids (gasses, water, magma) at depth.
This trend has been continuing during the past weeks and days and is being closely monitored by the Guadeloupe Volcano Observatory (Observatoire Volcanologique et Sismologique de Guadeloupe, OVSG-IPGP) who maintain alert level "yellow".
In the latest update, it they mention that elevated numbers of very small (below mag. 1, not felt) earthquakes at shallow depth (about 2.5 km beneath the summit lava dome) continue.
No volcanic eruption is expected in the near future, as the signs of unrest are still very weak and the most likely scenario is that they will eventually fade away, when a a presumed small intrusion of magma at depth has come to a halt. However, current hazards imply the sudden occurrence of new fumaroles, steam explosions, geysers or similar phenomena on the surface of the summit dome is increased.
