Background
The smaller and younger of two coalescing shield volcanoes on Tahiti, Tahiti-Iti (Taiarapu) is connected to Tahiti-Nui by a narrow isthmus. Potassium-Argon ages range from 0.48-0.38 million years ago (Duncan and Mcdougall 1976).---
