2015, 12:05 The third eruptive phase ended in the afternoon of 31 Oct, a day after it had begun. However, deep seismic activity suggests that the eruption might still not be completely over and alert level 2 is being maintained. ven., 30 oct. 2015, 07:23 Another (the third) eruptive phase began at the volcano yesterday evening. From 16:00 local time, the volcano observatory recorded an increase in tremor and new lava was seen in the vent after 20:00. ...plusShortly after 04:00 this morning, activity intensified further and formed a new active lava pond inside the large new crater that had formed early in the eruption near Piton Rivals. dim., 25 oct. 2015, 09:42 The lava flows from Piton de la Fournaise still active yesterday morning The latest (second) effusive phase of the eruption ended yesterday afternoon. After 15:00 local time, tremor became discontinuous and lava effusion ceased. ...plusThe short-lived, but quite intense re-activation of the eruption began last Thursday evening, after a break of 4 days in activity. During the evening, lava quickly filled the main cone again and produced a new lava flow that traveled more than 1 km to the SSE. By next morning, it had reached the western foot of Piton de Bert where it caused a bush fire that was still out of control yesterday afternoon and prevented ground access to the eruption site from Pas de Bellecombe. Whether the eruption will enter another (third) phase of lava effusion in the near future, or now can be considered to have ended for good, is impossible to say. [ moins] [ lire toutes]

The lava effusion seemed to have stopped as well. Aerial surveys this morning showed no more lava inside the vent. ...plusWhether this is a temporary pause or a rather sudden (but not uncommon) end of the eruption will be clearer in the near future. Up until yesterday (17 Oct), the eruption had been increasing, and generated again lava fountains from the main vent up to 40 m tall. The main vent itself had increased to reach approx. 100 m diameter, containing a lava lake which released large bubbles of gas (SO2), generating spectacular lava bubble ejections (images).

Accompanied by stable tremor, effusive activity remains strong and feeds a growing lava flow field that slowly expands towards the east in direction of the Grandes Pentes. ...plusAt the site of the main vent near Piton Rivals, a cone with a small lava lake has formed. From there, the lava flows for a large part of its path through lava tubes that then feed several flow branches further downslope. The front of the flow was not moving yesterday. [ moins] jeu., 27 août 2015, 07:08
The eruption that began last Monday continues. Lava output is much lower now (approx 10 cubic meters / second) than in the beginning (30 cu m/s), but more or less stable. ...plusBad weather during the past two days prevented more detailed observations. A heavy cloud of volcanic vog (SO2 droplets) encompasses most of the Enclos and parts of the southern La Réunion island. [ moins] mar., 25 août 2015, 15:27
Tremor amplitude of Piton de la Fournaise during the first 12 hours of the eruption (OVPF) The eruption that started yesterday continues, but only one of several fissures (east of the Rivals crater), that opened last night remains active over a length of 100 m. A small cone has been built at its upper end, approx. 140 m east of Rivals crater. Strombolian activity occurs from this vent, while 3 other vents lower on the fissure continue to produce lava fountains and feed a lava flow that slowly advances towards the Grandes Pentes. ...plusThe volcano observatory reports that both tremor and lava effusion rates have been dropping, first rapidly after the first, most intense two hours last night and more slowly since. jeu., 30 juil. 2015, 10:11 A new eruption might be under way at the volcano. Since last weekend, seismic activity from a source at 1-2 km depth beneath Dolomieu crater has been increasing. In addition, increased degassing and inflation of the Dolomieu crater have been detected, both likely signs of a new magma intrusion at shallow depth. ...plusThe prefecture has closed access to the Enclos. Whether an eruption will occur or not remains to be seen in the coming hours or days. If it does, it would be the third eruption of Piton de la Fournaise in 2015 after the ones in February and May. Already on 6 July, a similar seismic swarm occurred, but was not followed by an eruption. More than 90 quakes within one hour triggered an eruption alert and the Enclos was closed to the public. The caldera was reopened (with some limitations) on 9 July. [ moins] [ lire toutes] lun., 6 juil. 2015, 15:59 A new eruption could be underway at the volcano, the Volcano Observatory reported. lun., 1 juin 2015, 11:05 Tremor during the eruption of Piton de la Fournaise volcano (OVPF) The most recent eruption (the second in 2015) ended during the evening of 30 May. ...plusTremor disappeared around 20:50, following a decreasing trend since 27 May. According to estimates of the volcano observatory, the eruption produced approx. 8 million cubic meters of lava during its 13 days of activity, a typical value for an eruption of Piton de la Fournaise in recent decades. Interestingly, no significant deflation has been detected accompanying the eruption,- this means that it has not drained much of the magma chamber and that a new eruption, even in a short time from now, could be a realistic scenario. mer., 20 mai 2015, 01:06 Approximate location of the lava flow yesterday evening (fournaise.info) The eruption continues with strong lava effusion. As of 19 May evening, the lava flow had been at 3 km from the coastal road, having advanced 750 m during the past 24 hours. ...plusIts advance is likely to be slower from now on, as the front is now in the flatter area of the "Grandes Brulés". The two active vents with lava flows yesterday (photo: Planétaire974) The new eruption continues, although only the lowest vent seems to be still active by now. It continues to feed a large lava flow now headed towards the vast coastal flat to the east. In the course of today, it reached the steeper section of the Enclos, the "Grandes Pentes" and started to descend there. ...plusAt this point, the lava flow, approx. 4-5 km long could be seen from the popular "lava road" (which might be closed off soon). The lower fissure vent opened shortly after the first eruptive fissure had opened higher up on the flanks of Dolomieu crater, near the 1948 cinder cone "Chateau Fort". As is typical, the lower vent produced the more significant lava fountaining and lava flow effusion. Fissure eruption at Piton de la Fournaise today A new eruption, so far small, began this Sunday at 13:45 from a fissure vent at the the southeast slopes of the Dolomieux crater inside the Enclos next to the Château Fort cone. ...plusAn intense seismic crisis with 5-7 earthquakes per minutes started 55 minutes before the onset of the eruption, as magma pushed its way to the surface. A few minutes after the beginning of the quakes, significant deformation of the Dolomieu crater rim could be measured as well.
