In this photo released by the civil defense unit of the state government of Jalisco, the eruption plume from the initial stage of the powerful vulcanian explosion at Colima volcano on May 23, 2005, has been captured on film. The collapsing eruption column loaded with ash and rock fragments has not yet fully developed, but the flanks of the volcano are already covered by the impacts of ballistics. Colima volcano (Western Mexico) activity update: extrusion of lava flow from summit, intermittent explosions

Mild effusive and explosive activity continue at the volcano. A recent overflight made by the Civil Protection's fire fighting department of Jalisco (UEPCBJ) showed no significant changes in the summit area of the volcano. A flat mass of viscous lava is slowly extruding and overspilling on the western and southern sides of the upper cone, causing incandescent avalanches sometimes visible at night. Intermittent explosions with ash emission also continue to occur.

The volcano produces small explosions (reportedly 7-12 daily) generating small ash plumes up to about 1 km high. ... [details]
jeudi, déc. 05, 2013
Activity remains elevated. Strombolian-type explosions and lava flows / glowing lava avalanches on the upper slope continue. [details]
dimanche, nov. 24, 2013
Lava avalanches and flows continue to spill down the upper flanks.
vendredi, nov. 22, 2013
The current eruptive phase continues. Local newspapers reported explosions every 30-35 minutes, with plumes up to 2 km high. Lava flows (and incandescent avalanches) descend on the flanks of the volcano. [details]
samedi, nov. 16, 2013
Activity has increased recently, judging from recent pcitures of the volcano. Abundant rockfalls and lava flows descend the flank of the steep cone. It appears that growth of the lava dome has resumed in speed and overflows the rims of the crater. [details]
Colima volcano is one of the most active in North America and one of the potentially most dangerous ones. It has had more than 30 periods of eruptions since 1585, including several significant eruptions in the late 1990s. Scientific monitoring of the volcano began 20 years ago.
The Colima volcanic complex is the most prominent volcanic center of the western Mexican Volcanic Belt. It consists of two southward-younging volcanoes, Nevado de Colima (the 4320 m high point of the complex) on the north and the 3850-m-high historically active Volcán de Colima at the south.
A group of cinder cones of probable late-Pleistocene age is located on the floor of the Colima graben west and east of the Colima complex. Volcán de Colima (also known as Volcán Fuego) is a youthful stratovolcano constructed within a 5-km-wide caldera, breached to the south, that has been the source of large debris avalanches. Major slope failures have occurred repeatedly from both the Nevado and Colima cones, and have produced a thick apron of debris-avalanche deposits on three sides of the complex. Frequent historical eruptions date back to the 16th century. Occasional major explosive eruptions (most recently in 1913) have destroyed the summit and left a deep, steep-sided crater that was slowly refilled and then overtopped by lava dome growth.

17 days volcano trekking
: This is one of our most exciting volcano tours! Halmahera, North Sulawesi and the Sangihe Islands are not only very scenic and interesting as well as nearly unspoiled by tourism, but also home to some of the country's most active (and often erupting) volcanoes, inclduing Dukono, Ibu, Lokon, Soputan and Karangetang.
Volcano Calendar 2015
: We're proud to present our new volcano calendar 2015: 13 different and attractive images of volcanoes, volcanic landscapes and phenomena taken during volcano tours over the past few years.
Ethiopia and the Danakil
: Ethiopia is a very diverse and beautiful country. Thanks to our numerous expeditions to Erta Ale and Dallol
and beyond, we have an extensive collection of images showing the volcano's lava lake, the desert, the colorful hot springs of Dallol, the vast salt lakes, camel caravans and more.
Ubinas activity updates
: The most frequently active volcano in Peru entered a new eruptive phase in 2014. Updates and news are regularly posted on this page.
