Dukono volcano (Halmahera, Indonesia): constant ash venting
lundi nov. 10, 2014 22:23 | AUTEUR : T
Ash plume from Dukono on 9 Nov 2014
During our stay at the volcano from 8-10 Nov, there were no explosions, but the volcano produced vigorous constant ash venting from at least 2 vents inside the crater.
The ash plume was rising 200-400 meters and drifting to the southeast.
When observed from the rim of the crater, a dense jet of ash and blocks, with some incandescent material, could be seen leaving the vents as from a turbine. Solid material reached only few tens of meters height and fell back into the inner crater.
This process was accompanied by hissing noises and the constant crackling sound of falling stones, reminding of ocean surf. Occasional small lightnings occur frequently within the eruption plume.
