Trujillo Alto (113.1 km SE of epicenter) [Map] / Moderate shaking (MMI V) : Although it was midnight and I was fast asleep, it was enough to wake me up. The bed was shaking , the windows rattled. I live at the opposite side of the island.Many people here are worried that a big one is due soon, like the one in 1918 which was very destructive.

Punta Cana / Violent shaking (MMI IX) : While laying awake in bed, at at resort, we felt the bed shaking....15-20 seconds approximately. It was very odd, and alarming! Our suite, being located on the ground floor, and the headboard up against an inside/hallway wall. We couldn't figure out what was causing it, until we just heard of the news. That explains it!

The rumbling became gradually loud as the intensity grew. Apparently there was more than one quake in 1 minutes. It felt longer than the other quakes I have previously felt. About 10 seconds. Stronger too. The highest peak of the quake made the staircase to the second story of my house creak and the windchime make noise although no one touched it. It was strong enough to make it continue sounding for a while after it stopped. The lamp that suspended from the ceiling swayed too for a bit after the quake stopped.
