As if something large struck the building. folowed by a slight subsiding of intensity for two or three seconds then a rapid increase in intensity lasting approx 30 to 45 seconds possibly a few seconds more. Power lines observed swaying outside until 45 seconds or so after quake began. Definately not a 6.3 quake here in Guayaquil. No immediately noticable structural damage. Empty lightweight plastic drinking cup shaken off edge of desk.

Cuenca, Ecuador. BarrioTotoracocha / Light shaking (MMI IV) : I was guessing it was more local and about a 5.0. I lived on top of the epicenter in the Northridge 1994 earthquake. That was a 6.8 and this felt way milder, at least in Cuenca. The earthquake we had 5 days ago here in Ecuador felt about the same as this one did. But tonight it lasted for a pretty long time, a couple minutes.

It lasted for at least 30 secomds and reminded me very much of what we felt here in Cuenca on April 16, 2016 when the devastating earthquake hit the coast. We didn’t have damage here but friends had several things fall from shelves. We are on the fifth floor of a large apartment build. Our friends were on the seventh floor of a tall tower apartment building.

I then felt the bed begin to shake rapidly and a rapid vibration in the entire apartment building. I flung the sheets and blankets aside.
