An earthquake of magnitude 4.9 occurred only 16 minutes ago 77 km south of Bengkulu, Indonesia, Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 19 km beneath the epicenter near Bengkulu, Indonesia, in the afternoon on Friday 5 February 2021 at 4:07 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Bengkulu (pop. 309,700) located 77 km from the epicenter.
