Les éruptions depuis 1950 (f: flanc / s: activité sommitale): 1950-51(f), 1952(s), 1953(s?), 1955-64(s), 1966-1970(s), 1966(f), 1971(f), 1971-1980(s), 1974(f), 1978(f), 1979(f), 1980-81(s), 1981 (f), 1983(f), 1984(s), 1985(f), 1986(s), 1987(f), 1987(s), 1989(f), 1989-1991(s), 1991-93(f), 1995-2001(s), 2001(f), 2002(s), 2002-03(f), 2004-2005 (f),2006(s),2007(s),2008-9(f)

Etna volcano update: New lava flow into Valle del Bove

mardi déc. 08, 2015 09:09 | AUTEUR : T

Lava flow from Etna's New SE crater this morning
Lava flow from Etna's New SE crater this morning
Lava fountaining from the pit crater on the upper New SE cone's flank continued all day yesterday and fed a lava flow with two branches, the main one headed to the east reaching quickly the Valle del Bove, a lesser one to the NE base of the cone.
Activity today has decreased, but lava effusion seems to continue. This is likely only a pause in what is certainly one of Etna's most interesting eruptive phases in recent years.
Notice: We offer a volcano special tour to Etna from 11-14 Dec!

The activity at the New SE crater has been continuous all day and is still gradually increasing. A low lava fountain feeds a lava flow from the new pit crater. This flow occasionally generates small pyroclastic flows as parts of its front collapse on the steep slope. ... [details]

The speed at which activity increases is truly impressive. Even from webcams located more or less downwind (i.e. receiving much ash blocking clear view), the lava fountain is now visible clearly. [details]
Lava fountain and ash plume from Voragine
samedi, déc. 05, 2015
The 4th lava fountaining episode in less than 3 days has began at Etna's Voragine. Intermittent strombolian activity, elevated throughout the day since the end of last night's paroxysm, has now merged into sustained jets (fountains) of lava. An ash plume is again rising several kilometers. ... [details]
Explosion at Etna's Voragine this morning
samedi, déc. 05, 2015
After the third paroxysmal phase (tall lava fountaining) at the Voragine yesterday evening around 22:00, activity in the form of strong, frequent strombolian explosions and lava spattering continued all night and into the morning. ... [details]
