The 10th paroxysmal episode at the volcano in 2016 has come to an end and the volcano is now back to its normal state of intermittent mild to moderate strombolian explosions, ejecting incandescent material up to 100 m above the summit vents, at intervals of 1-2 hours on average.
The explosions (13 in total recorded by INSIVUMEH during the past 24 hours) produced ash plumes of 500-1000 meters height. The stronger ones were accompanied by weak shock waves and caused ash plumes that drifted up to approx. 10 km before dissipating.
The voluminous lava flows on the SE side erupted during the eruption in the past days (s. b.) were no longer alimented this morning according to INSIVUMEH, although their fronts and sides remain incandescent (likely, caused by the remaining fluid lava contained in their centers which continues to move a bit).

Fuego's 10th paroxysm in 2016 - summary:
The latest paroxysm was usually strong and produced more lava than (at least most of) the preceding eruptions. Activity started to increase around 23 June and built up to a phase of pulsating lava fountaining, strong lava effusion and significant ash emissions, which lasted about 30 hours between/during 24 and 25 June.
During the paroxysm, two summit vents were producing lava fountains and feeding two parallel lava flows were issued on the SE side into the El Jute and Las Lajas ravines, reaching 2 km length and having unusually wide and high fronts, i.e. contained more than average volumes of lava. Another lava flow might have been active on the Taniluya canyon on the SW side as well, although INSIVUMEH described this as result of incessant glowing rockfalls.
These glowing rockfalls occurred continuously on the summit flanks from both the lava flows and falling incandescent material erupted from the explosions at the summit vents.
During the peak phase of lava fountaining on Saturday, an ash plume rose several kilometers and extended over 60 km WSW towards the Pacific coast.

The 9th paroxysmal eruption in 2016 is in progress at the volcano: starting yesterday, explosions have become stronger and more frequent. As the magma output rate increased strongly, the explosions have turned into pulsating lava fountains and a lava flow began to travel down the Las Lajas ravine on the SE flank, currently reaching about 1200-1500 m length. ...
