Fuego volcano (Guatemala) activity update: frequent moderate strombolian to vulcanian explosions

During the past months, the activity has been relatively steady and intense, characterized by frequent strombolian to vulcanian-type explosions at rates of 10-20 per hour typically.
Incandescent material is often ejected to several 100 m height and produces small glowing avalanches on the upper slopes. During 15-18 June, occasional larger avalanches were observed to travel long distances (reaching vegetated areas) down Seca (W), Taniluyá (SW), Ceniza (SSW), Trinidad (S), El Jute (SE), Las Lajas (SE), and Honda ravines.
Ash plumes rose as high as 1.1 km above the crater rim and drifted 10-25 km in various directions. The explosions often produce shock waves that rattle windows and doors of houses in nearby communities.
Ashfall was reported in several areas downwind including Santa Sofía (12 km SW), Morelia (9 km SW), Panimaché I and II (8 km SW), Sangre de Cristo (8 km WSW), and El Porvenir (8 km ENE).
(partially from: Smithsonian / USGS Weekly Volcanic Activity Report 12-18 June 2019)

Change in activity style?
Interestingly, Fuego recently longer shows its marked rhythmic behavior which had characterized much of the past years' activity at the volcano: steady, but mostly mild explosive activity, regularly (every 3-4 weeks on average) interrupted by phases of gradually increasing activity culminating in short (1-2 days), but very violent lava-fountaining phases (paroxysms).
