MODIS hot spot data (past 7 days) for Heard Island volcano (ModVolc, Univ. Hawaii)
A hot spot at the summit crater is visible on MODIS satellite data, suggesting resumed or ongoing activity of some sort (small lava dome, lava lake?).

MODIS hot spot data (past 7 days) for Heard volcano (ModVolc, Univ. Hawaii)
A thermal hot spot was visible on satellite data from 9 Nov, suggesting that some activity continues or has resumed at the remote volcano.

MODIS hot spot data (past 7 days) for Heard Island volcano (ModVolc, Univ. Hawaii)
Another hot spot is visible on current satellite data, suggesting some sort of activity occurring at Dawson's Peak crater (perhaps a small lava lake or strombolian activity).

MODIS hot spot data (past 7 days) for Heard volcano (ModVolc, Univ. Hawaii)
A strong hot spot remains visible at Dawson Peak on Heard island, suggesting that volcanic activity (perhaps in the form of a small lava lake in the crater) continues. No ash plumes or significant degassing plumes have otherwise been detected on satellite data.

MODIS hot spot data (past 7 days) for Heard volcano (ModVolc, Univ. Hawaii)
Recent satellite images suggest that a lava lake is most likely currently active in the summit crater of Mawson Peak. ...plus

MODIS hot spot data (past 7 days) for Heard volcano (ModVolc, Univ. Hawaii)
A single hot spot is again visible at the summit crater. It is not known what activity exactly occurs there, but it could be that there is a small lava lake or strombolian-type activity from the crater at Dawson Peak.

MODIS hot spot data (past 2 days) for Heard volcano (ModVolc, Univ. Hawaii)
A thermal hot spot is again visible at the Mawson Peak summit crater of the island, suggesting renewed activity. Due to the remoteness of the uninhabited island, which is rarely visited, only satellite data are usually available to detect activity. ...plus

NASA Earth Observatory image of Hear Island on 20 April 2013 by Jesse Allen and Robert Simmon
Effusive eruptive activity at the remote volcano continues. A recent satellite picture shows a new lava flow on the SW flank of Mawson Peak. A MODIS hot spot is visible as well. ...plus lire toutes

Satellite images showing activity at Heard Island in recent months (Smithsonian / GVP)
The Smithsonian / GVP monthly Bulletin of the Global Volcanism Network for Jan 2013 confirms that Heard Island volcano is in eruption. A series of satellite images compared side by side show that the volcano started to produce lava (over-)flows from the summit crater of the Mawson Peak on the SE flank since December past year.
