Kilauea volcano (Hawai'i), activity update: still lava flow from Thanksgiving Eve Breakout

It was reported that during 7-13 January lava flowed through a tube system from underneath Kilauea's Thanksgiving Eve Breakout and reached the Waikupanaha ocean entry. Surface flows were noted and incandescence was seen at pali. Explosions at the ocean entry were seen.The vent in Halema'uma'u crater continued to produce white plumes. The sulfur dioxide emission rate at the summit was 800 tonnes
per day and above the 2003-2007 average rate of 140 tonnes per day. Sulfur dioxide clouds effected the nearby communities, and caused the Jaggar Museum to close on 12 January.

It was reported that during 12-18 November lava flowed SE through a tube system from underneath Kilauea's Thanksgiving Eve Breakout (TEB). It was reaching the Waikupanaha ocean entry. Incandescence and active surface flows were seen at the base of the pali fault. Several earthquakes were located beneath the south of the caldera and along the S-flank fault. Beneath Halema'uma'u crater earthquakes ranged from 20 to 40, but could not be located. The vent in Halema'uma'u crater continued to produce a white plume and drifted mainly SW depositing small amounts of tephra. Night-time incandescence was seen at the base of a plume. Sounds resembling distant surf and rockfalls were reported in the vicinity of the crater. The sulfur dioxide emission rate was 800-1200 t per day on 14 and 17 November. ... lire toutes

On 22-28 October lava flowded through a tube system at Kilauea´s Thanksgiving Eve Breakaout and was reaching the Waikupanaha ocean entry. On October 23 a plume was observed near the ocean entry. Acid rain caused a closure of the area for public also on 25 October. ... lire toutes

It was reported that during 3-9 September, lava flowed SE through a lava tube system from underneath Kilauea's Thanksgiving Eve Breakout (TEB) and rootless shield complex, reaching the Waikupanaha ocean entry and one further to the E. On 5 September, geologists saw multiple surface flows during an aerial observation: four on the coastal plain, and a large 'a'a flow and a small pahoehoe flow in the abandoned Royal Gardens subdivision. ... lire toutes

After several weeks of elevated explosive activity at the summit of Kilauea volcano, the Halema'uma'u vent which opened on March 19 has doubled in size to a current diameter of 65 m (215 ft), allowing scientists hovering above on September 9 the first views of a now-exposed lava lake about 100 m (330 ft) below the vent rim. The lava lake, estimated to be 50 m (160 ft) in diameter, was seen to be roiling, bubbling, and overturning, with its surface level rising and falling as a result of gas pistoning, periodic bursts that release coalescing gas bubbles from beneath the lake's frozen crust in an explosion of lava rock and spatter. lire toutes
