Krakatau volcano (Indonesia): eruption update - frequent small explosions, lava in summit crater?

The volcano continues to erupt. It is however difficult to say what the activity exactly looks like at the moment:
On one hand, reports of larger ash clouds have become less frequent, although ash sightings on satellite imagery have picked up during the past days again. On the other hand, the volcano observatory has recorded a peak number of explosion events, and a thermal anomaly in the summit crater is seen on recent satellite data.
A possible interpretation is that the current activity consists of more frequent, but smaller explosions of strombolian type rather than violent vulcanian-type events at longer intervals as observed during our visits in October.
Webcam images are not clear enough to help much, but glow can often be seen at night and could even suggest the presence of a new lava flow in the summit area of the cone of Anak Krakatau.
We will return to the island group on our Krakatau Special tour over the next 2 weeks and find out from on location!
